What is the difference between an appointed person and a first aider?

The main differences between an appointed person and a first aider are that the first aider will make the initial assessment of an injury or illness and deliver appropriate first aid to the injured or ill person until help arrives.

An appointed person is someone who is responsible for first aid arrangements in a workplace, including: managing first aid equipment and facilities, and calling emergency services when needed. They are not required to hold a formal first aid qualification.

A first aider is a person who is qualified to deal with first aid emergencies and give treatment in the event of an injury or illness in the workplace. Find out more about how many first aiders you need to train in your organisation.
